The BUDGET EASTCOASTER tour beginning in Launceston and finishing in Hobart highlights some of Tasmania's best riding.

DAY 1:   – WELCOME LAUNCESTON AIRPORT - LAUNCESTON

Velo Tours staff will meet you at Launceston Airport at (arrival time TBC) for immediate transfer by vehicle to our accommodation at our city hotel where will check you in.  We will put our bikes together and then roll through to Westbury for a coffee and pie or slice at Andy's Bakery (60km).

DAY 2:  – LAUNCESTON - ST HELENS

The road to St Helens is undulating to hilly with a few challenging hills to test you with 3 climbs averaging 5.5%.   Our approximate arrival time to St Helens is 2.00pm where you will have the opportunity to relax with a cold beer by the pool after a great day on the bike.

DAY 3:  – ST HELENS - SWANSEA

An amazing ride down the east coast to the seaside town of Swansea via Bicheno.  We will head back to Coles Bay to walk to the lookout and view the beautiful Wineglass Bay.  We might also call into Devil's Corner Winery for some wine tasting.

DAY 4:  SWANSEA - HOBART via RICHMOND   

we will stop for coffee at the cafe in Orford and then head to Richmond. The road is undulating with a couple of really challenging hills to test you. We will then transfer by vehicle for the remaining 30km to our Hobart accommodation.

DAY 5:  HOBART & MOUNTAIN WELLINGTON

This is the longest climb (19km) in Tasmania. The view from the mountain is spectacular and the decent just as much fun. We will be back to the hotel around  11.00am which gives you the rest of the day to enjoy Hobart.

DAY 6: - HOBART - STRAHAN

We have a 170km transfer by vehicle to Derwent Bridge. We will jump on the bikes to ride 86km to Queenstown through scenic and challenging world heritage areas that will leave you in awe of its rugged beauty.  We will then have the option to ride through or transfer by bus the remaining 50km or so to Strahan for a shower before dinner.

DAY 7:  – STRAHAN - CRADLE MOUNTAIN

We start out early from Strahan bound for Tullah - via Zeehan and Rosebery.  The scenery is stunning and the climb up Mt Black is challenging, with gradients averaging 9.5%.  Upon arrival at Cradle Mountain, we will take a drive up to Dove Lake for some photos before dinner in the hotel restaurant.

DAY 8:  –   CRADLE MOUNTAIN - DEVONPORT

From Cradle Mountain we will ride through some rugged countryside before heading down the exhilarating and challenging descent of Cethana and through the Northwest Coast wilderness via Sheffield.  We will grab lunch at a local cafe on the waterfront then check in to our hotel before dinner.

DAY 9:  –   DEPARTURE

Today we say farewell and make your transit to Launceston airport.

Our Budget Eastcoaster features all the great riding down the East coast of Tasmania to Hobart with budget accommodation options at local holiday parks, high end backpackers or lower end hotels that sleep from 2 - 6 a room.  Dinners are taken at local pubs to help keep the costs down, but when you are in Tasmania the locals are friendly and the food is always fresh.

DAY 1:  – LAUNCESTON  

Upon pick up from Launceston airport we will transfer by vehicle to your accommodation in Launceston for the night.  We will put the bikes together ready for an early departure tomorrow morning

DAY 2:  – LAUNCESTON – BRIDPORT 

Upon pick up from Launceston airport we will transfer by vehicle to a café at the outskirts of Launceston to put the bikes together and start our first day of riding through to the beautiful seaside village of Bridport.

DAY 3:  – BRIDPORT – ST HELENS

After a transfer to Scottsdale we ride the remaining distance to St Helens.  The route is takes in undulating hilly roads and 3 climbs to test you, averaging 5.5% in gradient with the longest being around 5km.

DAY 4:  – ST HELENS – BICHENO

Today we will enjoy the amazing ride down the coast to the seaside village of Bicheno. Fingers crossed we can enjoy some of the local sites like the Tasmanian Devil Park, Sealife Centre or Ironhouse Brewery en route

DAY 5:  BICHENO - SWANSEA    

Shorter day on the bike today heading south to Swansea.  The day includes a stop over at Devil’s Corner Winery for some views of Oyster Bay and wine tasting, then we will head to Coles Bay for the hike up to Wineglass Bay lookout before dinner at one of the best pubs on the East Coast!

DAY 6:  SWANSEA – HOBART via RICHMOND   

Shorter day on the bike today but the route is challenging with a challenging 8-9km climb out of Orford.  We will stop at one of our favourite cafes for coffee and scones in Richmond before loading into the van for the transfer to town.

DAY 7:  HOBART

Today is a free day for you to spend wandering around the great sites of Hobart, including Salamanca Market*, take a cruise down to Peppermint Bay on the catamaran or investigate the amazing sites of MONA.

DAY 8:  DEPARTURE

Early start to beat the traffic for the climb to the top of Mt Wellington.  This is the longest climb (19km) in Tasmania. The view from the mountain is spectacular and the decent just as much fun. We will be back to the hotel in time to shower and head to the airport.
