Kerry Stubbs found a passion for cycling at an early age, riding his bike to school and around the streets of his home town in Penguin, Tasmania while growing up. Since the early eighties, Kerry competed in and then owned a business running cycling and triathlon events across Australia and also became involved in the sports travel industry, taking teams and groups to all corners of the globe for sporting events and on tours. Kerry now spends six months a year in Europe exploring new places and putting together new tours for you to come and ride your bike - because we know there is no better way to see the world!
Kim has been project managing within the sports industry since 2006 and coordinating tours both overseas and locally in Australia since 2012. Her sporting family background and career as a statewide operations manager and supervisory role within a major hotel chain has given her the skillsets required to put together and host major tours alongside husband Kerry, from the ground up with no small detail overlooked. The dynamic husband and wife teamwork provides guests with a true family type experience that has people coming back again and again.
Henk Vogels has been Ambassador for Velo Tours since 2016. Having been involved in cycling for most of his life and turning pro at the age of 21, Henk brings an invaluable presence to each of our tours, both with his knowledge of cycling on a Grand Tour level and his hilarious sense of humour and approachable, down to earth personality. As a professional cyclist, Henk competed in 2 Tours de France, 2 Giro d'Italia and 2 la Veulta. Henk also compted in eight World Championships, claimed podium finishes in some of the Spring Classics and a top ten finish in the gruelling Paris Roubiaix. Henk now makes regular appearances on SBS Cycling during the Tour de France as a special comments commentator.
Kerry’s brother Tim Stubbs works by day as a supervisor in one of the larger gold mines in WA and is also an avid cyclist in his spare time. Tim has taken a 3 week sabbatical from work each year since 2013 to help as a domestique on our tours in France. Tim's strengths both on the bike and behind the wheel of a truck or van are invaluable on tour and when the two Stubbs boys are together on a bike, each day is a competition and there's never a dull moment with these two around! Tim's local knowledge of the French Alpes and the Pyrenees regions is extensive and he's always open to sharing his experience of all the climbs.
Blair is a passionate young cyclist from Tasmania who is studying Physiotherapy at univeristy full time and also races with the Van Diemen's Development Team. Blair is our young gun domestique who is always first to the top of the climbs and then waits with the bags and food set up until everyone in the group has arrived. Blair's skills as a bike mechanic also makes his place on the team invaluable. Blair looks forward to his annual trip to France as a support crew member on our tours not because of the amazing opportunity but because it doubles as a "hills" session in his training program!
Ben is another cycling member of the Stubbs family who helps out on the tours as a super domestique. Ben is usually wired for sound with his wireless speaker in the back of his jersey, bringing a lot of fun and joviality to the group. Ben is a passionate roadbike and mountainbike rider when not attending his day job as an electritian. Ben has also completed 3 Ironmans in his short 27 year career and goes to Derby in Tasmania often with his wife Asha for the amazing mountain biking available there. Ben and his wife Asha have travelled extensively overseas so he brings a depth of travel and cultural knowldege to the tours.
Asha, Ben's wife and Kerry's daughter drives one of the support vans on occasion and also acts as house mother to one of the chalets when staying in Bourg. Asha's career as a Year 11 and 12 teacher in Tasmania brings great organisational skills to the team as well as her numerous years working on events including the Devonport Triathlon, the Devonport Half Ironman and the Mark Webber Challenge to name a few. Asha and Ben have both travelled the world extensively over the last 5 years so they have a depth of knowledge with international travel.
Jimmy has been accompanying Kerry on tours to Kona, Port Macquarie Ironman and now the Tour de France for more than 10 years. Jimmy's skills as a bike mechanic have been acquired through years of bike shop experience in Victoria and are highly valued by the team. Though his work schedule does not always allow for Jimmy to come on tour, when he is, his highly infectious sense of humour and hilarious stories and antics bring a wonderful atmosphere to the group and dinner table each day.
Scotty Russell has known Kerry for over 35 years, both racing and riding socially together while living in Tasmania. Scotty still races mountain bikes and rides regularly in criteriums and gran fondos when his work as an accountant for the local council allows. His riding ability, bike skills and knowledge of bikes in general means Scott can match it with the best of them on the climbs, and make any repair required while out on the road.
